Can You Smoke CBD? Labeling and Restrictions in the European Union

From Iberohemp, experts in the CBD sector, we address a crucial question: the possibility of smoking CBD and the reasons behind its specific labeling as a collectible or aromatic product in the European Union.

The Change in CBD Labeling

Until the end of 2018, CBD companies, including Iberohemp, had the possibility to label our products as food or raw tobacco. However, with the increase in popularity of CBD marijuana, the European Union classified CBD as "novel food". This implied a series of regulations and costly studies, despite cannabis being authorized as traditional food.

Current Labeling: "Collectible Use" and "Aromatic Use"

Since this regulatory reevaluation at the end of 2018, all industrial hemp products containing CBD must be exclusively labeled for "collectible use" or "aromatic use". This measure has limited our ability to pass the usual food safety controls.

Restrictions and Legal Consequences

Due to these restrictions, any company that promotes the consumption of CBD, whether for medicinal or recreational purposes, faces the risk of significant fines. In fact, several companies have already been sanctioned with fines amounting to €90,000.

At Iberohemp, we strive to comply with all current regulations, ensuring that our customers receive high-quality products within the legal framework.
